Delhi Metro Becomes First Ever 100% Green System In The World!
Delhi Metro is first to go completely green and get green certification for all its major buildings and installations. It has been awarded a platinum rating by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for adhering to all green building norms for Rail Corporation’s ten residential colonies.
Earlier, DMRC has won several green certificates for its Phase-3 stations, depots, and other sub-stations. The Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Mangu Singh expressed his feelings analyzing the need for adopting this green technology in a statement saying, “The country’s energy consumption has increased by 700 percent in last four decades. This will increase three times more by 2030. One of the major users of energy is the transport sector, especially urban transport. Therefore, it is very relevant to focus on Metro systems and talk of the green metro.”
The delegates from all other Metro systems in the country have attended the National Conference on the green metro and discussed the issues for planning, constructing and adoption of green technologies. Prem C. Jain, the chairman of IGBC, praised Delhi Metro and said, “DMRC was the first one to become a green Metro. The platinum ratings they have got is very hard earned, and a lot of toils has gone into the process.”
According to the sources, recently an initiative has been taken by DMRC in association with Shri Ram School, Gurugram was known as ‘Swachh Chetna- an Eco Club’. The purpose is basically to encourage school children to participate in the more environment-based activities and projects.
