In simple terms ketosis is a natural state of the body, when it is almost completely fueled by fat. This happens mostly during fasting or when we follow a low-carbohydrate diet which is also known as keto diet or ketogenic diet.

What is ketosis?

Keto or ketosis makes the body produce small fuel molecules called “ketones”. This is an alternative fuel of the body when blood sugar (glucose) is in short supply.  Ketones are produced in the body when fasting is done or when there is a very little intake of carbohydrates and moderate amount of protein intake.

Ketones are produced in the liver, from fat. They are consumed in the body as fuel. Our brain consumes a lot of energy every day, it can’t run on fat directly it can only run on glucose or ketones. So our brain also consumes these fuel produced by ketones in our body.
