FEMINISM is crinkling all over the world beyond a shadow of a doubt. It is not just a noun to symbolize, but, it has something prodigious power imbibed in it. Different people have different perspective on this controversial topic. Feminism is not just exhibited through the agitation or any movement, but also through writings as well. “Pen is mightier than the sword” is a proverb that stands always true. And the feminist writers are no less in showing their power through their writings. There are few feminist writers who are stupendous in expressing their feminism.

VIRGINIA WOOLF, a spectacular figure captivated the minds of women through her remarkable writings like “PROFESSIONS FOR WOMEN”, “A ROOM OF ONE’S OWN” etc. She blatantly opposes the women to be a weaker sex. Feminism just flourishes in her writings. According to her, every woman has an innate ability to write but it is due to the oppression and subjugation that she faces is hindering towards her terminal. She is undeniably an efficacious writer with reverberating effect on the women.
2. SHASHI DESHPANDE
SHASHI DESHPANDE is one of the most accomplished contemporary Indian women writers in English. All her 6 novels depict the psyche of a middle-class woman. The protagonists in her novels suffer from an identity crisis and they take a move to evade the stereotypical perspective. At first, Deshpande refused to be labelled as a feminist but, later she reiterates the fact that she is a feminist. She has a different stance about feminism. For her feminism means “pro- woman but not anti-man”.
3. ELAINE SHOWALTER
ELAINE SHOWALTER is known to be one of the pioneers of feminist literary criticism. She is the first woman to coin the term “gynocriticism”, giving a detailed scrutiny of women’s literature. The focal point of her work includes only about women’s writing. She has shown the complete arena of women’s literature in her famous work “Towards a Feminist Poetics”. As a feminist and a feminist critic, she has carved a niche for herself.
4. SHOBHA DE
SHOBHA DE is considered to be a doughty figure in the literary world and yet, an adamant supporter of feminism. Her valiant attitude seems boundless in her novels. She doesn’t hark back when she sets foot for something. Though, peculiar in her ways, her literary output is marked with an ingenious grace. Most of her novels circulate about the elite women and their unusual fantasies. She gives a realistic picture of a woman and portrays them in an unconventional style.
5. MAYA ANGELOU
MAYA ANGELOU is one of the eminent poets of America. She is the true voice of feminism who struggled a lot for the racial injustice. Angleou’s bitter experiences since her childhood are integrated into a book called “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. She has strong feminist ideas and she became a role model. Her courage is an inspiration to every woman. There’s a quote from one of her poems that truly defines her-
“Feminist writers are unique in their ways from the other writers and their pervasive struggle for the equal rights of a woman makes them radically different”.
